Native New Yorker Lauren Rogoff is originally from Rockaway Beach in Queens, but she’s been living in this zip code for eight years (and nearly three years in her current home). During the day, she works as an attorney at a literary agency. She also flexes her creative muscles as a painter, selling watercolor art prints, greeting cards and custom paintings of incredibly adorable cats, dogs and other creatures. Today, she’s sharing Union Square neighborhood stops that add up to a well-designed day!
I love to sleep in a bit, when I have the chance! My bed is super cozy, which makes it that much harder to leave.
, my absolute favorite bakery, is just down the street. Their babka is insanely delicious, but to start my Saturday nothing beats a latte and an almond croissant.
I adore this mural; it’s so classically New York. And I pass it on my way to a ton of amazing home design stores on this block — From The Source, West Elm, Housing Works, and more.
I shop at the Greenmarket in Union Square most weekends for fresh, awesome produce, and have a hard time resisting the greenery. I’m now the proud owner of that tall Peruvian cactus on the left.
No weekend is complete without a good book, and I’m so lucky to have the Strand nearby. When I was a kid I could spend hours sitting and perusing downstairs, and not much has changed.
Similarly, any happy weekend day for me means some time painting in watercolor. This dachshund is nearly finished. Another Breads iced latte is the perfect accompaniment.
ABC Carpet & Home is such an inspiring store. It’s six floors of incredible home goods. I lust after practically every one of these chandeliers!
ABC has two restaurants inside the store and for my money ABC Kitchen has one of the loveliest interiors in all of New York—white bricks, gorgeous lighting, live-edge wood and charming, mismatched dishes. Of course, I also keep returning for the delicious food, especially the sundae.

Our “well-designed day” neighborhood guides are a visual tour of what a great day looks like from the perspective of a local.
You’ve loved the peeks inside gorgeous homes from around the world, so we thought we’d ask house tour stars to share their other homes—the neighborhoods and cities they live in. These are the stylish, colorful, bold and fun spaces that these locals would visit if they were designing a great day of stopping at favorite spots (or lounging around at home!). You can follow on our Instagram as we post images from their well-designed day and read more about this series.
