Name: Hannah, Jake and their daughter Cyprus
Location: Columbus, Ohio
The basics: 8 months, rented | 1,214 square feet
Hannah’s home is a funky textile dreamland with plenty of space for her young family. You can find charming boho touches throughout the space that feels so warm and lived in, it’s hard to believe they’ve been living here for under a year.
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband’s job relocated us this past September. It was our first time living more than ten minutes from both of our families. My mom is my best friend and where all of my creativity stems from, so moving away from her was difficult. Adapting to a new city away from friends and family was difficult in the beginning, so I began to focus all of my energy on turning our apartment into my sacred place, my happy place and home away from home. It has quickly evolved into just that. My husband, Jake, and five-year-old daughter, Cypress, spend a lot of time on our back porch playing board games and eating. It’s one of my favorite spots in the apartment.
What is your favorite room and why? I would definitely say our family room. It is so warm and bright and obviously where we spend most of our time. I love the different textures and patterns. I feel like I’m in Across the Universe or some sort of time capsule which makes me so happy!
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Maybe to flick my wand and turn it into an actual home from the 70s. I just love the vibe I get from movies like Across the Universe, or Jane Fonda’s house in the movie Peace, Love, Misunderstanding. The chaos and warmth from colors and patterns is just my favorite.
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? I think Penny Lane from Almost Famous would be the best answer from the top of my head. She was a cool chick.
Hannah’s words of advice: I would say not to follow rules or a certain color scheme unless that is what makes you happy. I have always admired people who can find a style and stick with it. Such as choosing neutral colors and having beautiful, soft colors that are repetitive. I really respect that and I wish I could do that but I just can’t. I need color in my life. When we first moved in I tried to keep everything white, gold, metal, and wood but that just is not me. I’m drawn to color and texture. So definitely just buy and DIY what makes you happy.
Thanks, Hannah !
