IKEA, Zara Win at PETA’s First Ever Vegan Homeware Awards

Shopping vegan might be easier than you think. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) announced this week the first ever winners of their Vegan Homeware Awards, and some big names are among the mix.

"As demand for compassionate and sustainable homeware grows – in line with soaring interest in vegan living – the PETA Vegan Homeware Awards celebrate the best designs and innovations for a cruelty-free home," the activist organization said in a press release. "Thanks to brands such as our award-winners, more and more cruelty-free options are becoming available for shoppers who want to avoid leather, feathers, wool, and silk."

The awards spread across fourteen different categories—from sheets to office chairs to innovative materials. IKEA was named best faux sheepskin for their ever popular (and at just $14.99, super affordable) TEJN rug, while Zara Home won for best wool free curtains.

"Home is where the heart is – and compassionate consumers are driving the demand for beautiful vegan homeware," said PETA director Elisa Allen. "Forward-thinking designers are experimenting with sustainable and cutting-edge vegan materials and offering a great variety of cruelty-free choices to suit every home and budget."
