I’ve always been a more-is-more fan when it comes to bed pillows. There are, of course, some of you that think decorative pillows on your bed are a total waste, but a fully styled bed is just something I love and I will not make apologies! However, I’ve had a bit of a change of heart lately, mostly in part to the rise of the extra long lumbar pillow.
While many of the examples below show a long lumbar paired with a few other throw pillows, what’s so great about it is that it would make a simple bed without much fuss look completely pulled together on its own. Stack your normal sleeping pillows, plop in a long lumbar and boom! You’re done.
To provide you with a little inspiration, we’ve gathered seven beautiful bedrooms of varying styles rocking the long lumbar to show you how great it looks. Plus, read through the end to see our 12 shoppable picks below!
Above: I just love the pattern mixing on this bed setup from Cup of Jo. A neutral duvet and sheets get an upgrade with a set of Euro shams, matching regular-sized lumbars and that super jazzy long lumbar.
Doesn’t the bedroom of actor Hank Azaria, featured on Architectural Digest, just make you want to crawl into bed and lounge around all day? The simple pillow set up keeps this rather formal room much more casual.
Making It Lovely has a great formula to follow when making a bed up: Two standard pillows + two standard shams + extra long lumbar pillows = a very chic (and pretty straight forward) bed.
This long lumbar is a DIY from Francois et Moi (she made it from a table runner from Target!). The bed would have been just lovely with the two nude blush pillow cases and white Euros alone, but the black-and-white bolster takes it to a new level.
From Cup of Jo, if you love the California Casual look that’s so popular right now (I don’t blame you, I love it, too!) your bed absolutely needs a long lumbar.
Kilim-covered lumbars are the most popular girl in lumbar school right now, but it’s not hard to see why. This bed, from Style Me Pretty, gets a jolt of global flair to ground the sweet pastels around it.
Earlier this summer, we put together an article on different ways to style your bed pillows. Our favorite way is shown here and it takes literally 1 minute (or less, depending on if you’ve had your coffee already) to throw this look togehter.
