Name: Coni, Albert and Mia (plus their cat!)
Location: Ciutat Vella — Barcelona, Spain
Size: 1,023 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years, owned
When Swiss fashion designer Coni met Albert in Barcelona years ago, their adventures as a couple were off to a good start. After a year of dating, they moved into a small apartment in Barcelona. However, they knew they’d have to upgrade to a bigger space when Coni became pregnant with their daughter. They had been apartment hunting for several months, when Coni passed by a gorgeous flat and saw the sale poster on the window. Coni and Albert took a tour together and they instantly fell in love with it. After four months of renovations, they finally moved in.
Several months later, Mia was born, and they couldn’t be happier with their new family home. They love the bright light that fills the space, the vintage details, and the park located just steps from their front door (which they describe as their own front yard). The space was beautiful to begin with and Coni has made it their own with smart styling choices that add personality to every corner. Though it’s possible that the family may outgrow their current home in the future, they will likely stick around for a while.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: We love mid-century and that’s why we have so much vintage furniture. We love to have elements that have a story to tell and a neutral palette, so we can add colors with details.
Inspiration: Magazines like Architectural Digest or Milk Decoration. Also, Apartment Therapy!
Favorite Element: We love the dining table, not only as a piece of furniture, but also because of what it represents. We love to have breakfast on weekend mornings, sitting at the table with the gorgeous light coming through the windows.
Biggest Challenge: The renovation itself! It was a challenge keeping the old elements of the house and incorporate new ones such as Nordic or minimal elements.
What Friends Say: They really love the light and the views of the park. Most of them say that it has a peaceful vibe because of the neutral colors, the light, and the furniture.
Biggest Embarrassment: The kitchen. It’s a little bit far from the dining room and you have to go through the entire house to get there.
Proudest DIY: The collages with illustrations and photographs in the living room.
Biggest Indulgence: The kilim carpet in the living room. We bought it online and it was sent from Turkey. The shipping address was my office so it was a huge challenge bringing it to my house. It was really heavy!
Best Advice: Try to decorate the apartment with elements that have a story to tell or have some special meaning for you.
