This $35 Swedish Hand Soap Is Totally Worth It — Kitchn

To say that I’m frugal isn’t exactly accurate. I have survived on a very meager salary; used Dove soap bars to wash body, face, and hair; and eaten rice and beans for an entire summer due to insufficient funds (my fault for lending a guy all of my savings, only to find he used the money to pay off his credit card bills). I am also a minimalist when it comes to things, so the temptation to buy something just because it’s pretty is tempered by the anxiety I get from having too much stuff.

But still, I have always been willing to splurge on things that make me happy.

My splurges vary from smaller finds, like really good olive oil or French sea salt, to spendier items like the Vitamix I bought when I broke up with an ex. (I knew I’d miss his fancy blender more than I’d miss him.) They’re usually luxurious, but still practical.

My most recent splurge is a super-yummy (and super-expensive) Swedish hand soap from a company called L:A Bruket. It arrived in the mail today and it smells like heaven — or at least my version of heaven, which is to say lemongrass. This might well be my very favorite scent (but if it’s not yours, the company has other fragrances that also sound lovely, like wild rose, dark vanilla, and cucumber mint).

It has just enough lather to feel like my hands are getting clean, without drying them out. And while I don’t know enough about soap to speak with authority, the ingredients are organic and it feels like the good stuff.

It also comes in an apothecary-style brown bottle with a smart white label, so it looks handsome on my kitchen counter.

What’s the one thing you splurge on for your kitchen?
