Chip Gaines Wants to ‘Chipstart’ Your Next Business

Chip Gaines isn’t wasting any time after the end of his beloved HGTV show Fixer Upper. The home renovation king and husband to Joanna Gaines just launched a new platform called Chipstarter (you know, like Kickstarter) in which he’ll help a few lucky folks achieve their wildest dreams.

Gaines asked people to send in videos of themselves explaining their goals, and what they would need in order to attain them. The finalists will be sent to the Gaines mothership (Waco, Texas) for final interviews before two grand prize winners are picked. If you cruise the finalists on the website, the hopeful winners have a variety of endeavors, ranging from a Christian baseball bat company to a military vet and mother of two who dreams of attending photography school in Montana for the summer.

The Chipstarter website goes into further detail as to why Gaines is pursuing the project. “Chip is passionate about being a runway for people—a starting place to help their dreams take off. His book, Capital Gaines, details some of his earliest dreams and goals, and how others were a runway for him,” the website reads. “Some of his dreams worked out and some didn’t, but without the people who believed in him, he knows he wouldn’t be where he is today. Chip wants to help your dreams take off, and this is his way of doing just that.”

“Capital was always the struggle,” Chip tells Money. “I always had these amazing visions. Had this amazing work ethic. Had this amazing work partner in my wife. But I was always struggling for capital… We want to ‘Chipstart’ a few people’s dreams. If their business plan is great — what can we do to get behind you? We want to pay that forward.”

The Chipstarter program is a part of the press for Chip’s new book, Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff (get it? Gaines?) which just hit shelves on Tuesday.
