A Colorful, Pattern-Filled Barcelona Apartment — House Tour

Name: Sylvia
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Size: 1722 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years, renting

After practicing as a lawyer for fifteen years, Sylvia found her true calling at the age of forty and became a stylist. She likes to call it “wardrobe art” because her job is not only following trends but also looking for special pieces with a story to tell. She loves Africa, especially Marrakesh, where she wants to live one day. Colors, textures, hand-crafted items, and discovering mysterious things and places are her passion.

This is what you can see in the decor of her home, her passions, what she likes, what makes her happy. With every trip something new appears in the apartment; her love for colors and textures makes her always on the lookout for special things.

“What you like is what makes you happy, it’s who you are,” as Sylvia says. This apartment reflects who she is and how she feels.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: I love the sixties and seventies…not just the aesthetic but the feeling of it…the freedom, textures and colors.

Inspiration: Travelling, my job, flowers, I get inspired with everything! Colors, textures, food, magazines!

Favorite Element: The living room’s ceiling lamp. I love it! It’s a piece of art! It is hand-painted silk.

Biggest Challenge: The bathroom. As it’s a rental, I don’t want to do a big transformation so it is hard to add some of my aesthetic in there. I added some things but I’m still working on it!

What Friends Say: They feel really comfortable; they are always saying they feel good vibes in here.

Biggest Embarrassment: There is a room where I put all the junk and it’s always closed! I hate seeing the door open!

Proudest DIY: The headboard of my bed. I actually didn’t do it with my hands. I bought the fabric from a French lady who brought it from Africa. A carpenter made me a rack and then we covered it with the fabric.

Biggest Indulgence: Again…the ceiling lamp of the living room. It was really expensive and was brought from Venice.

Best Advice: Do it step by step because little by little either you find what defines you or vice versa…

Dream Sources: I like AD magazine. I don’t go to decor] shops. My dream sources are travelling, auctions, markets from around the world and hotels.
