Take a Peek Inside Judy Garland’s Former Apartment

The legendary Judy Garland once owned this apartment in the iconic New York City building, The Dakota; it recently went into contract after a significant price cut.

Initially on the market for $16.75 million in 2016, it was most recently listed at $10 million. The apartment in the historic 1884 building has an interesting and impressive lineage. Aside from the divine Ms. Garland the home belonged to a pair of championship bridge players who sold the apartment to Jacqueline Bikoff, a Studio 54 regular. Jacqueline’s daughter, Sasha Bikoff, gave the apartment the bold and bright makeover you see in the photos.

The 9 room home boasts 13 foot high ceilings, natural light, a view of the interior courtyard and seven (yes, seven!!) wood burning fireplaces. The layout of the apartment is such that all rooms are connected to a hallway or corridor and the major rooms are connected to each other. And while the design of the apartment is glamorously extravagant it is also exceedingly well done, with historic features preserved and enhanced. Claw foot tubs, gorgeous molding and wood floors maintain a sense of bygone glamor.

Famous Dakota residents past and present include John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Bono, Rosemary Clooney, Maury Povich and Connie Chung, and Lauren Bacall.
