On Instagram, a social platform where most everything is filtered and Face Tuned, we love a subversive account that challenges the perceived perfection we see on a daily basis. Decor Hardcore is one such account. Prepare to be surprised, delighted, and maybe even a bit disgusted.
The Decor Hardcore account was started in 2015 by Berlin based Ksenia Shestakovskaia and Michael Garrett, who regularly feature “good taste, bad taste and all the fun in between.” What started as Shestakovskaia’s personal collection of images from eBay has now turned into 95,000 followers as of press time, with the occasional regram from the queen of quirky, Ms. Amy Sedaris.
The duo has even spun their eyes for the unbelievable into a line of merch and a creative studio, and they’ve been working with brands like Gucci and Versace on campaigns and projects.
In a Vogue interview from earlier this year, Shestakovskaia shares her tips on how to find unique items on eBay: “If you can dream it, you can find it on eBay! The better you know what you’re looking for the higher the chances are you will find it. As for search terms, I can recommend: ‘ugly,’ ‘tacky,’ ‘horrendous,’ or ‘terrible,’ to name a few. I am often surprised to examine what other people consider to be ugly.”
Here are some of the “ugly” finds the pair has featured on their Instagram (including a surprising amount of clamshell beds):
