These Guys Built a Bed From 7 Sheets of Plywood, and The Video Is So Relaxing

We spotted this DIY plywood bed over on Reddit, and while the design is cool, the video for it is even better. Even if you’re allergic to projects and have no intention of ever building your own bed from scratch, the video is so relaxing, it’s worth a watch.

Spotted over on /r/DIY, the project comes from Chris Salamone of FourEyes Furniture and Johnny Brooke of Crafted Workshop. They collaborated on this bed and backlit LED headboard combo, which was built with seven sheets of plywood (roughly $350).

The bed is crafted by stacking 7-inch wide planks that vary in length—the shorter ones are the length of the mattress, and the longer ones extend by seven inches on each side, effectively creating a finger joint for the sides and the foot of the frame to connect.

“The process is super simple, it’s just that you have a lot of pieces,” Salamone encourages in his narration—a friendly, calming tone that’s reminiscent of NPR true crime podcasts Serial and S-Town. Which is exactly why I spent nine minutes this morning zoning out to illustrated cross sections and shots of dudes gluing plywood.

There’s a separate video for the headboard, and plans for the whole project, should you be inclined to take on the DIY, are available over on Crafted Workshop.

And if you’re in need of a place to sit, check out this other Reddit user project, a reclaimed sofa made for $100 in materials.
