Ready Your Wands: A New Harry Potter Mobile Game Comes Out in 2018

Here’s a perfectly legitimate reason for Potterheads to rush 2017 the heck outta here and slam the door behind it: A Harry Potter mobile game is slated for release next spring, Variety reports.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a collaboration between Warner Bros. and Jam City (creators of games like Marvel Avengers Academy, Family Guy: Another Freakin’ Mobile Game and others), and will apparently be the first game that allows players to create their own characters, thus enabling them to live out their fantasies of being Hogwarts students IRL (aka major muggle dream come true). Armed with a wand, an owl and robes, players will try their hand at satisfying a wizard-themed curriculum with classes and activities they’ve watched Harry, Ron and Hermione master over the years, including Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts courses as well as a Duelling Club.

According to Warner Bros., there’s a bit of a retro-themed catch to Hogwarts Mystery: the game takes place in the 1980s well before Harry and company’s hair-raising hijinks took place. The good news is that some of our favorite professors are set to make an appearance (because what’s a Hogwarts experience without the sage advice of Albus Dumbledore?). Here’s something else to make your muggle hearts sing gleefully: the game will be free to play (!) and available for download on Google Play and both Apple and Amazon’s App stores.

“‘Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery’ is a mobile gaming experience inspired by J.K. Rowling’s spellbinding lore, and it will be an exciting, fun way for fans to experience the Wizarding World,” said David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

In advance of the release date, be sure to brush up on your wizardry knowledge (those spells aren’t gonna cast themselves) and also pre-register for news and updates about the game at
