We’re calling it now. The geometric trend that presented itself in the triangle print here and the faceted vase there is about to blow up. With Pantone declaring it one of the hottest trends of the new year (and we personally agree based on what we’ve been seeing), you’re bound to notice simple shapes picking up speed and adorning everything from tiles, wallpaper, home furnishings and decor. Expect to see plenty of circles, triangles and hexagons galore!
Kasey Hodgson, interior designer and co-owner of Roost Interiors, agrees. “Because of my background in graphic design, I have a particular fondness for geometric patterns,” she explains. A recent bathroom renovation (seen above) features an array of shapes that, when combined together, showcase a modern twist on age-old classics. Cabinet doors with clean-lined, geometric molding contrast nicely with overscale circular knobs, oversized subway tile, and the patterned mosaic marble floor. “We plan on incorporating bold geometrics using tile, wallpaper and fabric in the upcoming year,” says Kasey, adding that she finds clients tend to be big fans of the straight forward geometric motifs.
ITALIANBARK is also seeing the trend take off in tile work, as evidenced by the pieces showcased at Cersaie, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings. “Unexpected” hexagons, chevron, and fish scale patterns (a new take on simplistic circles and geometric shapes) left quite an impact.
You don’t have to go all in by ripping up your walls and floors; you can choose to incorporate the trend subtly by adding in an art print, end table, or wall hanging to your space. Though of course, if you’d prefer to make the trend (which happens to still be pretty enduring in terms of style) more of a main focal point in your home, a geometric tile backsplash in your kitchen—like the one here via Architectural Digest—or bathroom or a dedicated wallpaper nook would look so on point.
