Get Inspired By the Pioneer Woman’s Organized Fridge

This morning we woke up to find an Instagram post from Ree Drummond about organizing her refrigerator and, man, was it inspiring. First of all, it’s kinda nice to know that celebrities have the same issues that we have (they are just like us!). Plus, the before and after pics gave us hope that anyone can get their fridge under control — no matter how bad it is to start. (Hers was pretty bad!)

Keep reading to see the before and after — and to get some good tips to steal for your own fridge-organizing project.

Says @thepioneerwoman: “This is not a crazy Pinterest-worthy fridge transformation; it’s just simple organization. The first three photos show the calamity that can result from Christmas break, college kids, video shoots, and just all around busy-ness and lack of fridge attention. Bacon was in with the grapes, old sweet potato soup was languishing, dogs and cats were living together, and I basically dreaded opening my fridge. So yesterday afternoon I pulled it all out, removed and scrubbed the shelves, and put everything back in a more sane order. And aside from some old crusty jars of salsa and pickles, I hardly had to toss anything, which made me happy. I wound up with a bunch of kale, spinach, arugula, a few other veggies I didn’t know I had, a million strawberries, and I realized I can mark “cheese” off my grocery list until the year 2029. The butter, on the other hand, might last until Saturday…”

They’re obviously not the prettiest photos, but they’re real and that’s part of what we like about them. How much better is this after photo? Let’s break down some of what she did.

1. She started from scratch.

Ree said she pulled everything out to get started. Not only did this allow her to wipe down the shelves, but it also gave her a blank canvas to work with. If she had tried to organize things with even a fraction of the stuff still in there, it would have been a much more complicated process. Make things easier on yourself and follow her lead.

2. She stored like with like.

Ree’s before had grapes with bacon and eggs stashed all over. Wacky, right? Now, she’s got everything grouped together. Yogurts are stacked together, fruit is all on mostly one shelf, cheese is together, butter is together, etc. By grouping all the similar ingredients together, it’s easier to tell how much of each item you have on hand.

3. She added some containers.

What we love most about this is that she didn’t run out to buy specialized fridge organizers. She just stole bowls and dishes from her cabinets. The point? Use what you have to create some instant organizers for fruit, eggs (although we always suggest leaving your eggs in the carton they come in), and even sticks of butter.
