The first glance of Heidi Klum’s new “no-frills fixer-upper” penthouse in SoHo has us channeling her Project Runway costar Tim Gunn and chanting: “Make it work!”
The supermodel turned entrepreneur and TV producer recently bought the nearly 5,000 square foot loft at 515 Broadway in March for about $5 million, according to The Real Deal.
The loft is actually a much more modest (by celebrity standards) real estate purchase than those for which Klum has made headlines in recent years. In 2015, Klum was reportedly seen scouting out Tavern Island, an $11 million private oasis on the Connecticut coast, with an eye towards buying (according to the New York Post), and apparently she was also interested in the 158 Mercer Street penthouse of Jon Bon Jovi, which eventually sold for $34 million.
But this more “raw” space, with views of the World Trade Center, sits on the top floor of an historic Queen Anne building and the completely open concept (no bedrooms, kitchens, or bathrooms) studio unit was formerly occupied by an actual working artist for the last 30 years. It’s a blank canvas with unlimited potential for the supermodel, including the option to purchase roof rights from the co-op to add outdoor space to the penthouse unit, but needs total gut renovation, according to Curbed New York, which features some conceptual renderings of what the future might hold for Klum’s new home.
The co-op building is part of a three-building complex (including 519 Broadway and 84 Mercer) that’s no stranger to celebrity residents, albeit of a much more subdued-in-the-spotlight sort. New York Observer notes that the complex has previously also been home to actors Meg Ryan and Hank Azaria and photographer Cindy Sherman.
