The Queen Will Reportedly Gift Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a House

Forget the KitchenAid mixer. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may receive something a bit more lavish from the Queen of England for their wedding gift.

Multiple publications, including the UK’s Mirror, are reporting that the Queen is planning to give the duo their very own home. Many predict that property will be York Cottage, located in the Queen’s private Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Naturally, the home is filled with royal history; King George V and Queen Mary moved into the property after they wed in 1893, and George frequently sang its praises, stating that it resembled “three Merrie England pubs joined together.”

Of course, seeing as the Queen has about 150 buildings on her Sandringham estate, maybe it wouldn’t be too tough for her to part with one of them. That’s exactly what she did when Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2013, gifting the royal couple with Amner Hall, a Georgian country house.

Just last month, Harry and Meghan announced via Kensington Palace that instead of traditional wedding gifts from their guests, they’d be requesting donations to seven of their favorite charities which represent issues ranging from sport for social change and women’s empowerment to conservation and homelessness.

The couple’s big day is set for May 19 at St. George’s Chapel on the bucolic grounds of Windsor Castle. They won’t be the first notable couple to take the plunge there, however; Royals like Queen Victoria’s children and Harry’s own father Prince Charles and stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles have wed at the chapel.
