I Found the Perfect Dupe for IKEA’s RÅSKOG Cart

How can you use IKEA’s iconic RÅSKOG cart at home? Let me count the ways: As a bar cart, as a kitchen cart, to store clothes, or beauty products, or shoes, even as a nightstand or side table, the list truly goes on and on.

The versatile little utility piece is a classic for a reason.

Truthfully, I’ve been lusting after the cart for years, but never got around to buying one for myself (probably because getting to IKEA’s Brooklyn location would require me to take multiple trains and then a ferry, which, just no). But after moving into a new apartment last week and discovering its utter lack of storage, the realization set in that I would have to buck up and make the trek. “Fine, I’ll go tomorrow,” I said out loud to my unpacked belongings as they patiently waited for a new cart to call home.

I started psyching myself up (a.k.a. lying to myself that the ferry ride would be fun, that the meatballs would make it worth it, that dedicating a full Sunday to a $25 purchase wouldn’t be a total waste of time). Reader, it did not work.

Instead of getting up early to go to IKEA, I slept in. I treated myself to an oat milk latte from the coffee shop on my new street. And I spent a couple of hours listening to the new Father John Misty album on my balcony. Self-care, ya know?

But the cart never left my mind. I told myself I could just make the trip next weekend instead, and set out to run a few errands that would not require a boat.

So you can imagine my joy when I discovered a perfect dupe for the cart at a totally unexpected place: Michaels.

I was only there to pick up a few frames, but as I made my way through aisle after aisle of craft supplies, a familiar shape caught my eye. It was the cart. And it was rose gold! Swoon.

The Lexington 3-Tier Rolling Cart looks almost identical to the RÅSKOG, and even though it’s a little pricier at $30 versus IKEA’s $24.99, I could not be happier with the purchase. Putting it together was a breeze, and the metallic blush tone adds a delightfully luxe touch.

And while IKEA only offers three color options—black, navy, and cream–Michaels’ version comes in nine varied hues. Looking for something neutral? Try the matte black, gray, or white. Prefer a bolder statement? Check out the mint, bright pink, or champagne.

To be honest, I might even pick up a few extras to use throughout my apartment. Extra storage? Check. Bar cart? You’re up next.
