This week marked IKEA’s Democratic Design Days, the event where the Swedish retailer announces its upcoming collaborations. At the end of the day on Thursday, the company dropped that they’ll be working with Saint Heron, the multidisciplinary cultural hub founded by none other than Solange Knowles.
So far, details are sparse, with just a twenty second video released on Saint Heron’s Instagram alongside the caption that they’ll be “exploring architectural and design objects with multifunctional use.”
While the partnership is still in the early stages, the multifunctional aspect reminds us of the Tom Dixon collaboration (the DELAKTIG sofa/bed “platform for living” that debuted in February) while we can hope for some boundary pushing creativity, not unlike what Virgil Abloh and the retailer are currently working on.
Even though there’s very little information so far, Twitter is already excited:

I can’t believe Solange bout to have me camping outside of IKEA, then walking 6 miles through the store to find her collection. Iconic //t.co/zYs6LlsQP3

There’s even already an A+ Dad Joke.
My dad just told me a corny joke about how Solange’s line with IKEA should be a lounge line called… Solounge…. and I hate that it was actually funny

Saint Heron wasn’t the only major collab announced in Almut this week; the company is pairing with another powerhouse Scandinavian brand, LEGO, on a new collection. There’s also a project with Adidas in the works on making sport accessible to everyone.
