The 2019 IKEA Catalog Is Here—These Are Our Favorite Products

The past seven days of my life have been shrouded in secrecy—like NDA-level secrecy—but I can finally open up and shout the big news from the rooftops (well, from Apartment Therapy, at least). The 2019 IKEA Catalog is officially here, and it’s a good one! Especially considering it’s the Swedish design giant’s 75th anniversary year.

“For 75 years we have been driven by the belief that furniture can be affordable without sacrificing principles of quality, design, and sustainability,” said Shideh Hashemi, Marketing Manager, IKEA U.S. in a press release. “In our 2019 catalog, we are thrilled to introduce a multitude of exciting new products that stay true to our heritage, providing form and function that’s both easy on our wallets and our planet.”

IKEA was kind enough to send me an advance copy of the catalog a week before the news became public, and I’ve been secretly poring over the pages, and desperately trying to keep it hidden from any prying eyes, ever since. I will admit, the cover itself didn’t exactly draw me in—save for the lovely blush VEDBO armchair—but IKEA redeemed itself with what’s inside.

The 286-page catalog feels distinctly now, with the perfect amount of nostalgia for beloved styles of decades past. For the first time, IKEA also designed seven specific homes all with totally unique design sensibilities to celebrate the differences in how people live at home. And while the families within the homes are fake, the inspiration is real AF.

There’s the “Haven in the city,” which is full of soothing touches and a neutral palette, there’s “Resourceful and loving it” home, where sustainable touches abound, and the “Where more is more” home, which pretty much explains itself. You can find the full list of homes and the pages on which they appear on page four of the catalog, which is available as a digital copy now, and will be available as a physical hardcopy starting August 1 (you can sign up for your copy here).

But to give you a little sneak peek at what’s inside, we rounded up some of our favorite products that make an appearance in the 2019 IKEA catalog.

1. STOCKHOLM Sofa, $1,699

The catalog describes this stunner as “extra deep, wonderfully spacious and dressed in soft velvet.” I describe it as the first IKEA sofa to ever make me audibly gasp.

2. MEDFÖRA Trays, $8/4 pack

Okay this whole vignette is pretty much a dream (I am still not over blush, sorry not sorry) but the little tray in the bottom right corner is the real standout. On-trend terrazzo? Check. Durable melamine? In my possession? Soon. Oh, so soon.

3. FABRIKÖR Glass-Door Cabinet, $179

This steel and glass case would make a great place to display your favorite collections, whether that means purses and accessories like the catalog example, or beautiful vintage trinkets.

4. BURVIK Side Table, $50

IKEA has always been known for adding surprising, but highly functional touches to their pieces, like the handle on this petite side table. The handle makes it small-space friendly, while the black coated steel keeps it looking chic.

5. VEBERÖD Room Divider, $149

Another brilliant solution for small spaces, this room divider features two hanging baskets for storage, and can be used to create an indoor garden too.

6. SJÖPENNA Floor Lamp, $30

An eye-catching floor lamp that adds the perfect architectural touch to your home for less than $30? Consider us sold.

7. GODMORGON Mirror Cabinet, $279

The whole GODMORGON bathroom collection is a beaut, but there’s just something about the sizable double mirrors on the cabinet that stole my heart. The lovely, almost-blue shade of gray doesn’t hurt either.

8. FÄRLÖV Sofa, $899

Yes, this is the second velvet sofa on this list, but just look at it! The slate gray cover is even removable and washable, a rarity in the world of velvet.
