A neutral color palette, natural materials, and white furniture are the trademarks of Toco Goñi, an Argentinian interior designer who’s worked for over seven years, mostly designing custom furniture for her clients. The apartment she shares with her husband and their daughter is full of light and charm and is a true oasis in the busy city of Buenos Aires.
Their home’s design story began when Toco and her husband, Fernando, exchanged apartments with her in-laws. The new apartment was bigger… but also dark and lacking in style. Seven months, a lot of dust, and fewer walls later, the renovation was completed. The result is two cozy bedrooms, a family room with a home office included, two bathrooms, and a much bigger kitchen. After the dog and baby arrived, the apartment was complete!
Toco says she identifies mostly with neutral colors, and at first blush the home seems to embrace a sparse minimalism. But her use of to-die-for design details and textures—along with a small mix of bright colors and surprising accents—keeps the space from being empty or boring.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Neutral. I like plain colors.
Favorite Element: Chandelier in the living room.
Biggest Challenge: Seeing the potential of the apartment when everything you saw was so tacky.
What Friends Say: They feel super comfortable when they come. They love the good vibe.
Biggest Embarrassment: The views from the baby’s room. The neighbors are too close.
Proudest DIY: The picture collage in my office. I also framed and hung every picture.
Biggest Indulgence: The marvel of the bathroom. It was really expensive.
Best Advice: Do the renovations little by little. Think and try to see the potential.
