A DIY Rental Dining Room Is Incredibly Colorful and Patterned — House Call

Name: Anam Zohaib of Delicious and DIY, and my husband
Location: Los Angeles, California
Size: 1,100 square feet
Years lived in: 3 months, renting

My husband and I recently just moved into this condo, which is a rental. We love the natural light that pours into the space throughout the day, which is a big reason why we moved into this space. I love bright and bold colors and a lot of furniture pieces that I have painted have pops of color and pattern. I rarely ever use neutral tones since I love everything to be bright and cheery.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Fun, bright, bold, and colorful.

I painted each dining room chair in a different bold color. The dining table was also a thrift store find which I transformed using the marbled paint technique, resin, and a decorative wood trim.

I love bright and bold colors which I tried to incorporate in my dining room from the wallpaper to the wall art and the furniture

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room has to be the dining room as I recently gave it a complete makeover.

I have a side nook in my dining room where I hung two DIY shelves and placed a gold monstera leaf-decoupaged table that has a gold vase on top.

These chairs I bought off Craigslist, and to add a little extra touch to it I attached wood acrylics at the back of the chairs.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Since I live in a rental I constantly want to make changes having the DIY bug in me, but some of the changes I can’t execute as they are too permanent. But currently—surprisingly—I don’t have any changes that I would like to make in my home.

I chose to use a removable wallpaper in my dining room as I live in a rental so it does not damage the walls. Plus it is so easy to install and looks great.

Adding bright faux flowers really makes a difference in any space like it did in my dining room.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I bought for my home was basically wood as I had to frame wall art and also make DIY shelves.

The buffet table I created by painting two IKEA IVAR cabinets and adding acrylic legs to the cabinet.

Any advice for creating a home you love? What has helped me in creating a home that I love is to make mood boards and Pinterest where you can easily get design inspiration. It is a great way to see how certain color palettes, designs, and furniture will look together.

Thanks, Anam!
