Sleep in a Sustainable Geodesic Dome on the Canadian Forest

When it comes to eye-catching structures, geodesic domes lead the pack. They’re quirky, futuristic, and they tend to stand out wherever they’re situated. On the flip side, architects at Canadian firm Bourgeois Lechasseur have managed to come up with a trio of domes that blend into their natural surroundings.

Dubbed Dômes Charlevoix, the rounded domiciles comprise a luxury eco-resort located in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François near Le Massif de Charlevoix, a ski area situated northeast of Quebec City. The domes represent the first completed phase of an extensive sustainable tourist resort.

Staying true to their sustainability goals, the architects are committed to making as few environmental disturbances as possible throughout the construction process. Cantilevering and wooden platforms allow the domes to sit securely on the hillside. A tree-lined pathway grants access to the resort.

Each dome features a sleek, modern interior. Grey canvas ceiling and concrete flooring enhances the natural feel of the design while radiant heating serves as an integrated form of interior temperature control. On the lower level, a concealed service area houses tiny kitchenettes, a master bed, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. A ladder leads to the upper level where more sleeping space can be found. The domes also come equipped with wood-burning stoves. Outside, each dome is accentuated with a large wooden terrace and spa that grants views of the St. Lawrence River.

If you want to get a more comprehensive understanding of these unique buildings before camping out in one, check out the history of domes and take a look at all of the really cool geodesic domes the world has to offer.

Currently, the Dômes Charlevoix are available for rental all year-round via Airbnb. To get a taste of luxury in a remote, forest setting, it will cost you $249 per night.
