Freezing Weather Turned an Ohio Home Into a Giant Ice Sculpture

The first big storm of 2019 hit over the weekend, some areas saw inches of snow, while others saw freezing rain. The weather plummeted to far-below freezing, with areas in the East Coast getting slammed with temperatures below 5 degrees and with the wind chill, it felt even colder. It officially means that winter is here and we’re in for a brutal one.

You might want to rethink your definition of freezing after looking at this picture. It might be cold by you, but areas surrounding Lake Erie are much, much colder. After the storm this weekend, a photo has begun to circulate online of a house encased in ice. A Reddit user uploaded the shocking photo with the caption, “My neighbor’s house encased in ice after the recent blizzard in Ohio (on shore of Lake Erie).”

Since the photo was shared by Reddit user insanezane777, it has already generated over 1,000 comments and 40,000 upvotes. In the comment section, the Reddit user also shared a photo of what the front of their own house looked like, and it was not much better.

One Reddit user commented on the post, writing:

While that’s incredibly beautiful, that has to suck! Just think about how much weight that’s adding to the structure of the house. Depending on how old the house was, I’d be paranoid about structural support damage, glass damage, wall cracks and so on. What would be cool would be a picture of it at night, with various colored lights in the windows…

This isn’t the first frozen house to go viral. In 2017, a house in West Webster, New York, was completely frozen in ice after a storm. According to the photographer, John Kucko, who snapped the photo, the house was about 30-35 feet away from the lakefront and after strong winds for five days straight, the front of the house became encased in ice.

Next time I want to complain about how cold it is when I travel into Manhattan, I might just keep my complaints to myself! Either way, I’m going to grab a cup of hot chocolate to fight off this chilly weather.
