Tom Dixon’s Latest IKEA Collab Will Make You Never Want to Leave Your Bed

The design partnership that encouraged us to farm in our homes are back with yet another innovative home goods product, and you’ll probably want to take the news lying down—in bed, that is. Perhaps that will help you to better visualize the functionality behind British designer Tom Dixon and IKEA’s customizable bed.

The aluminum modular bed marks the second offering from the DELAKTIG line, whose inaugural release was the sleek hackable sofa with interchangeable cushions. In the same spirit of this customizable platform, the DELAKTIG bed, available in February, is made to be hacked to the owner’s liking.

It’s a queen-size platform bed that comes with various accessories, including lamps, a choice of a rattan or black wood headboard and side tables that connect to the bed’s frame.

“I’m fascinated by the bed as a kind of primary unit that everybody needs,” Dixon said in a press release. “It’s essential; we spend more time in contact with our beds than with any other piece of furniture. So why not make it do more?”

In the meantime, expect a selection of new cushion covers for the DELAKTIG sofa to debut along with the customizable bed, which will be available in stores and online in February. Dusty pink, stone gray and soft beige will be among the new shades offered.

In addition to easy-to-incorporate bedroom decorating ideas, Dixon and IKEA’s growing “platform for living” has brought us enough furniture to pull off a complete home makeover, including several modular sofas, a modular platform armchair, chaise lounge, floor lamps and side tables.

The Swedish retailer has also been making investments in smart home tech. Earlier this month, IKEA announced new smart blinds that can be controlled by remote and synced to smartphone-based virtual assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.
